The China Resources Shenzhen Bay Sports Center is located at the northeast corner of the Nanshan Houhai central area, in the middle section of the 15-kilometer coastal leisure belt of Shenzhen Bay, adjacent to Hong Kong. It is bordered by Coastal Avenue to the north, Keyuan South Road to the west, Shahe West Road to the east, and the inner lake of Shenzhen Bay to the south. It is approximately 720 meters long from east to west and about 430 meters wide from north to south, covering an area of 300,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 335,000 square meters and a total investment of about 2.3 billion yuan. This includes a stadium, gymnasium, swimming pool, athlete reception center, public fitness facilities, and commercial supporting facilities. It was the main sub-venue for the 26th Summer Universiade in 2011 and is also a key urban landscape and public activity space in Shenzhen. The entire project covers about 30.74 hectares, with a total construction area of 256,000 square meters, becoming another iconic building in Shenzhen. Its stadium, gymnasium, and swimming pool are placed under a giant white grid-like steel structure roof, with the gracefully curved large roof resembling an incubator for athletes breaking out of their cocoons and rushing towards the world, showcasing new vitality.
After the Universiade, the center opened to the public, becoming a core venue for public fitness and an important venue for large-scale sports events both domestically and internationally. The Shenzhen Bay Sports Center project is currently in the soft foundation treatment phase, with plans to complete the steel structure hoisting by April 30, 2010, the overall roof closure by August 30, 2010, and the project completion acceptance by December 31, 2010, with sports facility acceptance scheduled for June 2011.
